A Belmar man and restaurant manager accepted $500,000 to settle a lawsuit for back injuries suffered while picking up an order at a meat warehouse. The man slipped while descending a steel staircase from the second to the first floor at Carl Streit & Sons in Neptune and fell on concrete. He claimed that workers washing the first floor had splashed water on the stairs making them slippery thereby causing him to slip and fall.
The restaurant manager had previously suffered a herniated disc at L5-S1, which he had herniated in an accident in 2000. The slip and fall down the staircase at Carl Steit & Sons exacerbated his prior back injury, requiring additional surgery, was unable to return to work and walks with difficulty.
James Maggs represented his client in both his personal injuries claim against Carl Streit & Sons, as well as his worker’s compensation claim.
