$500,000 Awarded to Slip and Fall Victim

A Belmar man and restaurant manager accepted $500,000 to settle a lawsuit for back injuries suffered while picking up an order at a meat warehouse.  The man slipped while descending a steel staircase from the second to the first floor of the warehouse in Neptune and fell on concrete. He claimed that workers washing the first floor had splashed water on the stairs making them slippery thereby causing him to slip and fall.

The restaurant manager had previously suffered a herniated disc at L5-S1, which had occurred during an accident in 2000. The slip and fall down the staircase at the warehouse exacerbated his prior back injury, requiring additional surgery.  The man was unable to return to work and walks with difficulty.

James Maggs represented his client in both his personal injuries claim against the meat warehouse, as well as his worker’s compensation claim.
